Feature - 2009

Interview by: Tammy Renee'

WP:  Let’s begin with you telling us a little about yourself.

AB: I am a goal driven individual. I set my sights on something, and go at it full throttle. I am spontaneous and witty, always having a good time. Even though I am extremely dedicated to all that I do, I also love to just lay low, relax, and take it easy.

WP: What was it that made you know without a doubt that you wanted to go into bodybuilding?

AB: As I said, I am very goal driven; so what better motivation then to know that you will be in front of hundreds of people in your speedo. I also want to prove to people that with proper training, nutrition, and commitment can bring you the results we all thrive for WITHOUT the use of steroids or enhancements.

WP: How long have you been lifting?

AB: Seriously for 10 yrs. I have been around weight rooms because of sports my entire life.

WP: What titles have you won?

AB: In High School, I won a lot of weight lifting competitions and bathing suit competitions. In terms of sports, I was all state in football and lacrosse, and competed in nationals in hockey. In college, I played lacrosse and was on the ACC championship team my freshmen year.

WP: What competitions have you appeared in and what place did you win?

AB: NPC-Hialeah 08- 2nd place.

WP: What are your best lifts?

AB:   Incline dumbbell chest press, Seated Rows, anything tricep related.

WP: Do you have any advice to people that wish to build more mass and more cut?

AB: Write out a plan. Find a friend with similar goal to workout with. Keep your nutrition on point. Stay consistent

WP: That is great advice! What do you eat in a normal day?

AB: Eggs or oatmeal are staples for breakfast. Lots of chicken, some fish, and small amounts of red meat. I eat a ridiculous amount of spinach. I love brown rice and sweet potatoes. I normally take down 2 shakes a day, and I am a huge fan of fresh fruit in those. I could possibly eat my bodyweight in peanut butter, but I try to keep that to minute amounts.

WP: That is a lot of clean food! Do you allow yourself a cheat day?

AB: Absolutely. I use it as reward at the end of the week, which in turn motivates me to get right back after it on Monday to burn it all off.

WP: What supplements do you take?

AB: Multi-vitamins, Anti oxidants, Whey, and Glutamine

WP: Could you tell me a story of how you have gotten where you are today?

AB: Growing up I was taught to be the best at everything I did. Following that strategy, I have created a life that I am extremely proud of.

WP: Do you have anyone you can thank for helping you get where you are?

AB: My parents were a great support system for me growing up. We traveled almost every other weekend growing up for some sort of sports tournament, and they were always behind us 100%

WP: Can you tell me about your modeling?

AB: : Modeling is new to me. I have never or do I think will I ever consider myself a “model.” For me, it is another source of motivation to stay in great shape. It has been a learning experience for me, and is now something that I really enjoy doing.

WP: Where do you want to be in 5 years, then?

AB: I see my in the South Florida, area surrounded by friends and loved ones.

WP: How do you keep the physique you have? What is the hardest thing for you to face when it comes to keeping your physique?

AB: Stay active! I am always doing something to keep me moving. I work hard in and out of the weight room. Keeping a solid physique takes serious commitment. The hardest part for me is the holidays. I LOVE food, and the holidays make sticking to a “healthy” diet a little tough.

WP:  Tell me about your future projects. Have any in sight?

AB: Absolutely! I am helping design my first personal gym, and it is on a yacht. This is something that I would like to do more of because, it combines my creativity with my passion for health and fitness.

WP:  Congrats! I bet you are excited! What gets you up in the morning?

AB: The drive to better myself and inspire others. And coffee.

WP: Ha-ha! Coffee helps! How do you approach a challenge?

AB: Head on!

WP: The only way! How do you create balance in your life?

AB: As much as I love to lift, be active, and hang out with friends, I make sure and give myself ample amounts of “down time” to keep me centered. Lie down, turn on some jams, and just reflect. It is something my mom has always urged me to do.

WP: You worked with our Senior Photographer, John at bbpics.com. What was it like working with him?

AB: Terrible! Ha-ha, just kidding. John is great. He has taught me so much over the last few months. He is extremely knowledgeable, and it shows in his shots. His creativity and light hearted demeanor creates a very comfortable environment to work in.

WP: Ha-ha! You're the first one to do that! I've been waiting for it! I bet when he sees this interview, his eyes are going to pop out until he sees the "Just kidding" part! How did he go over and beyond for you?

AB: Which time? Ha - ha. John has gone “over and beyond” for me multiple times. By taking me to areas of the country I have never been or experienced, introducing me to great contacts, and putting an enormous amount of time and effort into the preparation and presentation of my photos, John is constantly going beyond the call of duty for me.

WP: Would you recommend him to your friends? If so, Why?

AB: Yes, for the reasons mentioned already. His professional yet, friendly attitude makes him someone that anyone would want to work with.

WP: What one piece of advice you can share with me on how to gain the most muscle the fastest?

AB: ! Solid leg workouts benefit every other workout, as well.

WP: Are you married, dating, or do you have kids?

AB: I am dating but, I have no kids.

WP: Who had the most impact on you growing up?

AB: My parents had the greatest impact for sure. But, playing so many sports, many of my coaches became mentors of mine, as well.

WP: What is your work out regimen?

AB: It changes every 4-6 weeks. But, I incorporate free weights, core, and cardio into most everything that I do.

WP: Is there anything you would like to see change in the bodybuilding world?

AB: Steroid regulations! Go Natural!

WP: Have you played in sports before?

AB: Yes! Competitively in Hockey, Football, Lacrosse, Soccer, Baseball, and Golf

WP: Any shout outs?

AB: Yeah! The GC of Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale. Keep on keepin’ on gentlemen.

WP: What is the funniest story that has happened to you during competitions or while working out?

AB:  Having my girl friends paint me. Almost falling on stage because I had stepped in “Pam” cooking spray back stage. Doing a photo shoot on the beach a few days before a show and having grandmothers stop on the beach and pose for pics. Eating a Wendys “frosty” with one hand while holding a bodybuilding trophy in the other hand.

WP: Now, everyone of those are funny!  What is your greatest achievement in bodybuilding?

AB:  Personal satisfaction. To know that I have the ability to commit to something so intense as body building is a very uplifting and empowering feeling.

WP:  Amen! What are your interests outside of bodybuilding?

AB:  Sports, the beach, traveling, cars, girls!

WP:  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

AB:  To be 2 inches taller.

WP: Is there anything else you would like to add? Now is the time!

AB: I think I’m good, thanks for having me;

WP:  We're good, too! Good luck in the future. It was a pleasure having you!
