Interviewed by: Tammy Renee'
Daniel Hawin is 37 and has been competing for 20 years and have been a bodybuilding coach for 8 years. He’s a husband, a father, and also works full time for a major insurance company.
“I usually eat 3100 calories a day, which consists of 385 grams of protein, 30 grams of carbs, and 140 grams of fat.”
WP: What was it that made you know without a doubt that you wanted to go into bodybuilding?
DH: I remember being five years old at Halloween. I was the Incredible Hulk with the blow up muscles. After Halloween was over and I wanted to wear the blow ups under my shirt all the time, I knew then that this was who I wanted to be.
WP: Yes, this is truly a sign! Ha-ha! How long have you been lifting?
DH: I started lifting at 13 to gain weight for football.
WP: Do you have any advice to people that wish to build more mass and more cut?
DH: Diet is far and away the most important. High protein and high fat diet will keep you the fullest while burning the most fat.
WP: What do you eat in a normal day?
DH: I usually eat 3100 calories a day, which consists of 385 grams of protein, 30 grams of carbs, and 140 grams of fat.
WP: Wow! I see why you are so massive! Do you allow yourself a cheat day?
DH: Yes. One day a week. I drop the fats and carb out.
WP: What supplements do you take?
DH: I take nothing but Cellucor products.
WP: Could you tell me a story of how you have gotten where you are today?
DH: Not a story but, a lot of ups and down, a lot of injuries, and a lot of hard work.
WP: Do you have anyone you can thank for helping you get where you are?
DH: I need to thank my entire family for many tough years, but mostly my wife for all the support.
WP: Where do you want to be in 5 years?
DH: How about 3-1/2 years? I want to be on stage at the Masters Nationals when I turn 40.
WP: I can see that happening! You are massive! How do you keep the physique you have? What is the hardest thing for you to face when it comes to keeping your physique?
DH: I keep it by making this sport a part of my day, everyday. It helps by finding the time to spend both in the gym and with family.
WP: Tell me about your future projects. Have any in sight?
DH: This year, I will be competing in the Atlantic States in NYC on June 5th and Garden State in NJ on June 12th.
WP: Who had the most impact on you growing up?
DH: My father, Danny Sr., taught me the value of hard work.
WP: That does make a huge impact! What is your work out regimen?
DH: I work-out 5 days a week with 2 on 1 off and then 3 on 1 off.
WP: Have you played in sports before?
DH: I grew up playing football, baseball, and throwing the shot-put.
WP: Anything you would like to see change in the bodybuilding world?
DH: I like to see judging based more on esthetics and symmetry again.
WP: Yes, that would be good! Any shout outs?
DH: Shout out to Jason and Gina from Cellucor.
WP: Oh! You know them? Ha-ha! Great bunch of people at Cellucor. What are your interests outside of bodybuilding?
DH: The New York Mets !!!!!!!!!!!
WP: What did you say? Say it louder! Ha-ha! Just kiddin'! One more question before we close the interview. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
DH: I would have to say I’d like to change my stubbornness.
WP: That stubbornness is what is going to help you win your competitions you have planned. Ha-ha! So, if I were you, I'd keep it! You have been a pleasure to interview! Thank you for your time and good luck in your future bodybuilding endeavors!
DH: It has been my pleasure.
