Featured Athlete - 2009

Interviewed by Tammy Renee'
WP: Hello, Cody. It's a pleasure to be interviewing you. Let’s begin with you telling us a little about yourself.
CM: I’m 27 years old and I live in Clearwater Florida. I’m a Personal Trainer at a gym right up the street from my house and I really love my job.
WP: Being a Personal Trainer, you must have known you were going to be in this industry. What was it that made you know that you, without a doubt, wanted to go into bodybuilding?
CW: The fact that I see results every time I enter the gym. I love that it’s an individual sport because I enjoy challenging myself.
WP: How long have you been lifting?
CW: I've been lifting for almost 8 years now.
WP: Is it true that you won the "Gainsville’s Top Ten Bachelor's of the Year"?
CW: Yes!
WP: Wow! (Hands flying up in the air) I'm single! Ha-ha! Have you ever competed before?
CW: I’ve never actually competed in a bodybuilding contest. It is something that I am looking to get into in the very near future.
WP: I'm sure you will enjoy yourself if you decide to go into competing. What are your best lifts?
CW: My favorite lifts are bench press and squats.
WP: Let's give our readers some free advice since you are a Personal Trainer. Do you have any advice for people that wish to build more mass and more cut?
CW: It’s all about the diet. Eat healthy all year long.
WP: That is great advice! So, let's see if you take your own advice. Ha-ha! What do you eat in a normal day?
CW: I eat six meals a day. I eat eggs and oatmeal for breakfast. Lots of protein, turkey, chicken and some roast beef for lunches and dinners. Cottage cheese, protein shakes and wheat pasta for snacks. Basically, I eat low carbs and high protein.
WP: Okay, you got me! That is clean food! Do you allow yourself a cheat day?
CW: When I’m dieting hard for photo shoots and such, I don’t allow myself a cheat day. On my 'off times', Sundays are my cheat days.
WP: I love to see what other Personal Trainers take as to supplements. What supplements do you take?
CW: I really don’t take many weight gaining supplements but, I do take a lot of vitamins.
WP: Could you tell me a story of how you have gotten where you are today?
CW: It’s a simple story. It consists of hard work and dedication.
WP: Do you have anyone you can thank for helping you get where you are?
CW: Yes! I want to thank all the people who doubted me when I was younger. When I started lifting weights, a lot people told me I wouldn’t succeed because I had no genetic edge. Them telling me I would be nothing just made me want to prove to them that I could be the best.
WP: I love your determination. I know you have modeled so, can you tell me about your modeling?
CW: I started when I was eight years old, modeling for a tuxedo company. It’s something that I never really took seriously and just recently really started getting back into.
WP: Well, you look like you know what you are doing in your pictures! Where do you want to be in 5 years, then?
CW: In five years, I see myself married with kids, successful and happy.
WP: How do you keep the physique you have? What is the hardest thing for you to face when it comes to keeping your physique?
CW: I keep my physique by being in the gym six days a week, cardio every day and having a proper diet. The hardest thing about staying in shape for me would have to be cardio. I hate running inside and, when the winter months come around, I get really unmotivated to run.
WP: I don't run but, I love speed walking. I don't really care to use my treadmill inside during the winter, either. So, I know how you feel. Tell me about your future projects. Have any in sight?
CW: Hopefully, I will be doing a runway show in an after party for the super bowl.
WP: Wow! Good luck! What gets you up in the morning?
CW: My alarm clock. Ha - ha!
WP: Yeah, me too! Darn thing drives me crazy! Ha-ha! How do you approach a challenge?
CW: Head on! I never avoid a challenge. My best quality is my determination. I never give up.
WP: That is, if your alarm clocks wakes you up that day, huh? Ha-ha! Sorry, I had to do that! How do you create balance in your life?
CW: I create balance in my life because I never mix work and pleasure.
WP: Words of wisdom! I understand you worked with our Senior Photographer, John at bbpics.com. What was it like working with him?
CW: Fantastic! He made me feel very relaxed and he never hesitated to give me advice on how to get the best shot.
WP: How did he go over and beyond for you?
CW: He’s kept in touch with me via text message and he constantly refers me for other jobs. He really tries to help me with my career.
WP: That's John! Opps, I was suppose to call him today! OMG! He's going to kill me! I'll call him as soon as we're through with this interview! Ha-ha! Would you recommend him to your friends? If so, Why?
CW: Yes, and I have recommended him to my friends. He takes great pictures and he is very professional.
WP: What one piece of advice you can share with me on how to gain the most muscle the fastest?
CW: My advice is to lift heavy, eat a ton and get a lot of sleep.
WP: Being the "Bachelor's of the Year", does this mean you don't have a girlfriend?
CW: No! I live with my girlfriend of almost three years.
WP: Awwwwww! I hear girls hearts breaking right now. Ha-Ha! I'm glad you have someone! Who had the most impact on you growing up?
CW: My grandfather had the most impact on me growing up. He was always the backbone of my family.
WP: What is your work out regimen?
CW: I usually workout two body parts at a time and super set each. Actually, I super set everything. I use light weight but, I do really high reps, anywhere from 12 to 25 reps at a time. I like to keep my heart rate at 75 to 85 percent.
WP: Have you played in sports before?
CW: Yes. I played basketball and baseball into High School.
WP: Anything you would like to see change in the bodybuilding world?
CW: As a matter of fact no. I thoroughly enjoy the sport and I think everything is legit.
WP: Any shout outs?
CW: Yes! I want to shout out to John from bbpics.com, the L.A. Fitness staff, Samantha my girlfriend, my family and the Fazios.
WP: What is the funniest story that has happened to you while working out?
CW: One time, I as doing standing military presses and my workout partner pulled my pants down to my ankles. Of course, that was the day I decided to go commando.
WP: What are workout partners for? Ha-ha! Don't they seem to always make life interesting? Ha-ha! What is your greatest achievement in bodybuilding?
CW: It has to be when I benched 350 lbs. As I stated earlier, I had no genetic edge what so ever and I accomplished this by a lot of hard work.
WP: Wow! Sounds like you need to be in competitions! What is the proudest moment of your life?
CW: The proudest day of my life was the day my little niece, Riley, was born. That was a proud day for my whole family.
WP: Sounds like she is going to be spoiled with love! What are your interests outside of bodybuilding?
CW: I really like watching sports. I also enjoy going out to local bars and clubs with my girlfriend. I’m also just as content with renting a movie and chilling at my house.
WP: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
CW: My calves! They have been the constant challenge in my life!
WP: Do you use dumbbells, free weights, machine or all of the above?
CW: All of the above.
WP: Why? Explain your answer.
CW: Because I always like mix things up. First of all it keeps your muscles guessing and second of all I keeps me from getting bored.
WP: Is there anything else you would like to add? Now is the time!
JW: No, I just want to say thanks for the opportunity.
WP: You have been a pleasure to interview! Thank you for your time, and good luck in your future bodybuilding endeavors.
