Kathryn Marie grew up in Southern California and was an athlete from a very young age. She was a gymnast and a soccer player through her sophomore year of high school, and was also a competitive cheerleader. She went on to play college soccer at Metro State in Denver, Colorado; as an All American Defender and ranked 3rd in the nation her junior year.
With her love and passion for fitness, she has excelled in the industry. "My time in the fitness industry has been one of the most rewarding things to date, although it has only been a short while, I truly feel and know this is what I was meant to do. As a current fitness model, trainer, athlete, and contestant for the 2012 Miss California Pageant I hope to continue to do what I love, inspire those around me, and somehow make a difference in the lives of those I come into contact with. My motto in life is to never have regrets. I would rather say I failed then say I never tried."
Q. What have you overcome in life?
I had a lot of set backs when it came to college soccer because I was not allowed to play two sports in high school. I feel it prevented me from being seen from scouts. Once I was in junior college and was being recognized, I was sidelined my sophomore season because of a technicality, with switching school within the same league. It took me months of calling, emailing, sending videos, etc. to get a coach to call me back. It paid off for me in the end, because I was granted a scholarship to play for a Division II; nationally ranked college, and end my senior season as a nationally ranked All American Defender and a college degree; which in the end was my ultimate goal.
Q. What do you consider important in life?
I think the first and most important thing in life is the relationships I create and have with people. In the world we live in, it is way too easy to get caught up in possessions, things, and work successes without stopping to appreciate all the great people and relationships we create along the way. If we can't stop and enjoy the people in our lives, what will we have left at the end of our lives when jobs, money, and possessions no longer matter?
Q. What are your pet peeves?
The attitude people have towards life of always playing the victim. It is so important to take charge of your own life and realize that you have the mental, physical and emotional capacity to achieve whatever it is you desire. It is easy to blame your circumstances, make excuses, and think that somehow the world is against you. I believe you simply have to realize that the potential and opportunity is there, you just have to figure out how to take advantage of it.
Q. How have you changed over the years?
As a young athlete, I was always concerned about results, playing time, winning, and titles, but as I got older, graduated from college and entered into the fitness industry, I learned that it is so much more then just titles, and winning or losing. For me, I workout, eat clean and venture into fitness modeling to look and feel the best I can. I compete for the inner love of anything that allows me to compete against myself; pushing myself further than before and really test my own limits. Winning is always a goal, but I've learned to focus on the small things that lead me to my end result.
