I was born and raised in North Carolina. Growing up in a real southern family we had very poor eating habits! I played sports and was a pretty active child but no amount of activity could keep me from being a fat kid with all the grease, butter, and sugar that was used in all meals! We drank sweet tea and soda, water was only used for showers, washing dishes and clothes!
My childhood was complete chaos and I became a very lost child. I was rebellious, had low self-esteem, was very insecure, was fat and unhealthy and by 12 I was using drugs as an escape from reality. I continued on my path of self destruction and came close to death many times. Shortly after turning 17 I became pregnant with my little angel Alex. I was on birth control, never missed a pill and I know God sent me him to save my life. I am forever grateful for him! He has truly been a blessing to me in so many ways!
I gained 72 pounds during pregnancy and after I had him I decided to join the gym to loose the baby weight and found my new addiction. Except this addiction is actually a healthy one! I had no idea what I was doing, lots of cardio, still didn't know how to eat right, but I wanted to learn. I ended up skinny fat, ran my butt off literally, didnt eat enough, and had no clue about supplements. I did some research, put everything I learned into action and started seeing results. Training gave me strength, discipline, courage, self esteem, confidence & relieved the stress and pressure that I had being a single mom. I eventually got certified in 2005 through ACE for personal training, nutrition, and strength and conditioning. Working with other people, helping them change their life, be more confident and to see them smile brings so much joy to my life. I knew then I had found what I wanted to do with my life! I know now my passion and purpose in life is to inspire others and to be a good role model. That is what brings me more meaning and happiness to my life!
In 2009 I began working for a friend of mine in his supplement shop. He kept asking me when I was going to get on stage. I didn't know very much about competing so I did some research. Alex always comes first, being a single mom, no child support, so I had to save up the money before I could enter. Took me 8 months to save it but I finally was able to enter. It wasn't easy, financially I was really stressed, and I had never been on stage before and I was scared to death. I made it through and I fell in love. It was a great experience for me and I learned so much through it which made my next 2 shows much easier. I knew what I had to do and didn't let life stress me out. I really enjoyed the prep for the last 2 shows! Thats what life is all about...enjoying it!
I have competed in 3 shows. My first show was the 2010 NPC Palmetto Cup, placed 4th. Second was 2011NPC NC Golds Classic 1st place, and competed in 2011NPC National Championships where I placed 11th out of 42 girls. I'm currently in competition prep for the Arnold Amateur. I'm so excited to be able to not only be there at the Arnold, but to be able to walk across that stage, even as an Amateur. It's a dream come true!
