Inspiration of the Month - September 2011

21 year old Scott Chain lives in a small town called Converse in Indiana. He wrestled throughout High School and participated in Mixed Martial Arts. When he started wrestling, he got the mindset of bodybuilding. The dieting came from wrestling every week when he had to cut weight to beat his competition. He had to learn to portion out a lot of his food intake and eat healthy all year round.

In high school, he was always the guy people went to for information on bodybuilding. Still today, everyone goes to him. He's attending his third year at Indiana University of Kokomo; where he is applying himself to obtain his Master's Degree as a Health Psychologist.

To us, Scott is a role model to many. He works hard, he has a great mind, he sets goals and expectations for himself, and has a refreshing attitude about life. This is why we named him "Inspiration of the Month". We hope he will inspire you as he did us! This proves that a person dosen't have to go through hardship to be an inspiration to others...just lead by example.

"... I am a very blessed person. I have a house over my head, clothes on my back, and food in the refrigerator. I could never ask for anything more or to change anything about me or my life. You always got to be positive because there's always someone out there that has it worse of then you do. I love everything about myself and everything in my life!"

WP: What was it that made you know without a doubt that you wanted to go into bodybuilding?

The answer to this question is something only certain people obtain. There is a certain point in life, I believe, at which you notice you can never stop bodybuilding. Your mind is on a sort of track for success. When all year round you can eat healthy and not mind it, or when you want to eat something bad, but your mind is trained so well you just reject it knowing that's the best for you. Another thing is that every day is a must to workout. When you can't workout, you get mad and depressed or unhappy because you have to be in the gym. That's what got me into bodybuilding and still continues to push me day-after- day, month-after-month, and year-after-year.

WP: Since you are the "go to guy", do you have any advice for people that wish to build more mass and/or more cut?

Sure! Be patient, please. It takes time to add mass to your body or to cut weight. You can't normally get that ripped or a huge body in the snap of your fingers. I've been bodybuilding for five years to look like this. It takes time.

People I give advice to ask why this or that doesn't work. It does work, but it takes time. So, please be patient, diet right all the time, and supplement right all the time. You can't just buy something at the store and BAM; it works. It does not come easy, I promise, but then again, what does come easy? Not much. Like my grandpa always had told me, if you always work hard day-in and day-out, every single day, it will pay off! Keep your head up and always be positive and smile things will come your way.

WP: Give me a break down of your diet.

The only spice I use is pepper. Zero salt in my diet.

7:00 am: 2 cups of plain oatmeal and a protein shake.

9:00 am: 1 cup of plain cooked brown rice and 1 plain chicken breast.

11:00 am: 2 cups plain oatmeal, protein shake, plain chicken breast and bananas.

1:00 pm: 1 cup plain cooked brown rice, 6 plain tilapia fillets, 2 cups broccoli, and 1 banana.

3:00 pm: 1 chicken breast, 1 cup broccoli, and 1 apple.

5:00 pm: 1 cup plain cooked brown rice and 1 chicken breast.

7:00 pm: 2 chicken breast, 3 plain tilapia fillets, 1 cup broccoli, and 1 apple.

9:00 pm: Protein shake.

WP: Do you allow yourself a cheat day? If so, what is it that you usually eat when you do?

I don't have a cheat day. Maybe once or twice out of the month, I will eat out or have something I shouldn't. For me to eat unhealthy or cheat, I might have some ice cream or a piece of pizza. All year round though, I usually eat healthy. I do drink a bit, but I did just turn 21, right? So, I'll enjoy it for a little bit, then cut it off again.

WP: What supplements do you take?

Nitrocore 24 Protein, Jacked 3D, Neurocore (All 4 are pre-workouts. I cycle each one a week), Dark rage, Superpump 250, multi-vitamins, Milk thistle, Glutamine - post-workout, Dextrose - post-workout, Oxi elite- fat burner, fish oil, and Amino Acids.

WP: Could you tell me a story of how you have gotten where you are today?

This topic is what drives me and that's appearance. Before I started working out, I always saw everyone bigger then me. That's how I got where I am today. I see people with better or bigger bodies than me, so I push so hard for that! Another story is when I was younger, before I started bodybuilding, I was very skinny. You know what happens to most skinny kids; they get made fun of, picked on, and pushed around. That's exactly what happened to me, so you get to a point where you get tired of it and fix the problem. The way I fixed it was to start bodybuilding and got bigger than them! Ha-ha!

WP: Do you have anyone you can thank for helping you get where you are?

Two people come to mind; my mother Michelle and my grandpa Jim. I could go on for days about them. They have made a huge impact on my life. My mom has been around and supported me, my sister, and brother. She has raised us up on her own all through my childhood year. I have a lot of respect for that. I never had a real dad around to help her, so I looked up to my grandpa as a dad all through these years. My mom is an amazing and beautiful woman. She has been through everything by herself and still had time to come to our sports and support us with everything we have done. I would give my life up for her and would do anything in this world for her to make her happy!

My grandpa, like I said, has been a real father to me throughout these years. He is a very smart and intelligent man. He grew up from nothing and to me; he is the smartest man I know. He has given me so much good advice about life and taught me a lot of values. He always told me to keep pushing, always work hard, and go to college make something of myself. I live my life by that.

WP: Tell me about your future projects. Have any in sight?

After I get my college degree, a project I would love to start is to own my own business. The type of business I want to own is a type of business where people go to people's house and train them. It eliminates gym membership and if people are embarrassed to be in the gym. Also, they do not have to leave their house or drive to the gym. I would personally like to train them myself. I will see what happens though, it takes money, but with hard work you can get what you want in life.

WP: Are you married, dating, or do you have kids?

I am currently not married. Ha-ha! I love this question because it makes me laugh. I am not dating any woman right now. I am out dating though and meeting new people. Single life is good. Hmm...no drama, right? All your time is on you! I also do not have any kids one day though I will.

  • WP: What are your interests outside of bodybuilding?

I love to make people happy so, I do what I can to make people smile. Other then bodybuilding, my life is work. Some people hate work, but I love to work and I love the people I work with and also around. I'm always interested in what people are thinking and helping them solve problems. I guess that's why I'm going for a health psychologist in college.

WP: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I am a very blessed person. I have a house over my head, clothes on my back, and food in the refrigerator. I could never ask for anything more or to change anything about me or my life. WP: I understand you worked with John at bbpics.com. What was it like working with him?

Being that he was the first I ever worked with, it was great. He had a lot of ideas and they were great. The different ideas and places he chose was very unique. I would recommend anyone to him. He was very easy and understanding about everything. He showed me a new me you could say.
