Interview With Sponsored Athlete - Colton Leonard

Featured Product - February 2010

Interviewed by: Angela Courduff

Colton Leonard is a Spokesmodel & Sponsored Athlete with Cellucor Supplements. We wanted to learn more about this company and their products, and what better person to talk to then one of their Spokesmodels? Let us start by introducing Colton and we will begin our journey to learn more about the great company he is sponsored by.

Colton is a student at Texas A&M University studying Exercise Physiology and also a competitive bodybuilder. He has competed in both the NPC Teen Nationals, where he placed 2nd in the heavy weight division and in the NPC Collegiate Nationals where his best placing was 5th. He is looking to return to the Collegiate Nationals this year to better his placing and to hopefully win the show within the next two years.

WP: Hi, Colton! Thanks for taking the time to do this interview and giving us some insight on Cellucor. How did you get started in bodybuilding?

CL: Well, I started out just trying to get bigger and stronger for my upcoming senior year football season. After I hurt my neck in a game, I turned my full focus to bodybuilding. Once I competed in my first show, I was hooked and decided to pursue my dream of receiving a pro card in the NPC.

WP: You are a Spokesperson and Featured Athlete for Cellucor. When did you join the team?

CL: I have been with Cellucor for a little over a year now. I am very fortunate to be with such a great company.

WP: Can you tell us about Cellucor? How did the company get started?

CL: Cellucor was founded in 2001 by a group of entrepreneurs with a common goal: To create the best supplements the market has seen. It is really your “Rags to Riches” story. Cellucor evolved from a retail store where most of the shipping was done from a Duplex. Now, 9 years later, I think it is safe to say Cellucor is one of the top brands.

WP: Cellucor has really experienced an amazing journey as a company. In the company’s second year, the company really began to expand. What made it happen?

CL: It is truly because Cellucor has a great product and we bring innovation to a new level. The brand expanded quite dramatically as we began working with the GNC franchise stores as well.

WP: What were some of Cellucor’s first products?

CL: The P6, M5 and D4 were the first big supplements that got the brand recognized and off the ground. Although they have experienced multiple revisions and upgrades, they still remain some of our best sellers today.

WP: How many products does Cellucor currently have? Can you tell me about some of them?

CL: Currently, we have 12 Products, including Lean and Recovery Proteins, Muscle Growth Products and Weight Loss Products. Some of the top sellers include M5 extreme, P6 extreme and D4 Thermal Shock. The M5 extreme is our creatine-based pre-workout supplement. It is an amazing product that will increase strength and provide mind-blowing pumps and focus in the gym. You can feel the difference in just one workout.

P6 is great for boosting natural testosterone and suppressing estrogen. It is also a great product for increasing strength and size. Finally, the D4 Thermal shock has to be one of the most potent fat burners on the market today. We have many success stories with this product. Feel free to check out the reviews on www.DearCellucor.com.

WP: It is no wonder Cellucor has expanded so rapidly! Do you have a favorite product?

CL: Yes, absolutely. I really love the new formulation of M5. Cellucor is really going to set the bench mark for pre-workout supplements with this product in 2010. All I can say is that I felt an immediate increase in strength in the first workout and I have tunnel vision. I am completely focused on why I am in the gym and what I plan to do. Not to mention, I have never had a product give me such a pump in my life. And, I’m really not just trying to sell this product, anyone is welcome to drop Cellucor an email and they will be happy to send out a few samples.

WP: That’s great! Are there new products in the pipeline? Tell me about them!

CL: Absolutely! To name just a few, our next plan is to release a Weight Gainer Protein, and soon after that a multi vitamin. That’s about all I can say about that! The rest is top secret, but everyone can expect big things from Cellucor!

WP: Thanks for the preview! Can you tell our readers about Cellucor’s 2010 Get Fit Challenge?

CL: The Get Fit Challenge started off as an idea to spread brand awareness and help our customers achieve their goals in the New Year. The deadline to sign up has already passed, but we have a lot of competitors who are working really hard. I believe the top prize is close to $2,000-2,500! And we have a lot of very exciting gifts for our runner-ups including 40” LCD TV’s. Keep an eye out for our winners!

WP: We definitely will! So, where do you see Cellucor in 5 years?

CL: I believe in 5 years Cellucor will be leading the industry. Because Cellucor has approached the market in a different manner than most other supplement companies, they have a huge following of really incredible athletes. These athletes swear by Cellucor because the products do what they say they do! Provide amazing results!

WP: Let’s get a little more on a personal note. Are you married? Dating? Have any children?

CL: I’m glad you asked! I am currently dating one of the most amazing and supportive women around! Jessica and I will have been together for 7 years this summer. We were high school sweethearts and are currently both attending Texas A&M. She has been there for me through every contest season and she never complains, not once. Any bodybuilder knows how stressful contest prep can be on a relationship. She is always there for me. She has helped me cook my food and make all the final preparations leading up to a show. I couldn’t do it without her support.

WP: That’s amazing. She’s definitely a keeper! What do you feel has been your stepping stone to get where you are today?

CL: I believe I have been successful because of my work ethic and determination. I am logical in that I may not always be the best competitor onstage. However, I can always be the most disciplined and hardest working. I take that attitude into every workout and every meal I have to force down. I am always trying to better myself. By nature, I am very competitive and I just cannot allow myself to be outworked. Whether that’s pushing for one more rep in the gym, or starting my contest prep 24 weeks out instead of the normal 12-16 weeks.

WP: Now that’s dedication. With all you have going on in your life, how do you create balance?

CL: Well that’s hard, and maybe one of the hardest things about the sport. I am a full-time student, I work close to full-time and yet I never miss a training session. I have made school a priority during the year, so I have pushed my competitions back to the summer times. When it comes down to it, I just try not to make any excuses. I love to get in the gym and train, so I make time for it. Whether I have to wake up at 5:00 am or wait until 9:00 pm, I make it happen.

WP: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

CL: My five year goal is to have my pro card. I think it is a realistic goal and I can obtain it if I work hard enough. In 10 years, I would love to be competing with the best of them on the big stage. But, to me aesthetics are very important. I think a lot of pro bodybuilders have started to lose that mentality. I am really looking to not just be a mass monster, but to be a strong, aesthetically pleasing bodybuilder.

WP: What do you consider to be important in life? Why?

CL: For me, faith is very important. I am so thankful for all the blessings I have received throughout my life. In general, I believe the purpose of life should be to better one’s self. This can be done in any way, shape or form.

WP: That’s a great outlook. Do you have a website address or email you would like to mention so our readers can learn more about you?

CL: My page on Cellucor.com has a little more information about me and what I am doing, along with my blogs: http://www.cellucor.com/athletes/colton-leonard/.

I am on bodyspace, as well, and keep up with it quite regularly: http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/Weight_Room_Junkie/.

And, I am always up for questions and I can help anyone out with discounts on Cellucor or advice on what to take. Feel free to email me at: Colton@Cellucor.com.

WP: Where can people go to find out about Cellucor?

CL: The best place to go for information is the website, www.cellucor.com, or to email one of the Customer Service Representatives - Steven at StevenL@cellucor.com, Jerry at JerryN@cellucor.com, or myself.

WP: Colton, it has been a pleasure interviewing you! I wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors!

CL: Thank you so much for this opportunity, and I have really enjoyed spreading the word about Cellucor.

WP: And readers, stay tuned for more on Cellucor’s 2010 Get Fit Challenge competitors! We invite everyone to visit their website and check out their product line and learn more about them.
