Josh Sehorn

Featured Before & After - January 2011

Interviewed by: Mike Hall

When Josh Sehorn entered Micah Lacertes' transformation contest at Hitch Fit he walks away with an entire new life! Josh was 225 pounds when he started his transformation. Now, he's 160 pounds! The best present he received was not the new founded health, happiness, friends, and lifestyle but, it was the present of giving all those things to other people. After his transformation, he was offered a job at Hitch Fit and, to him, that was the best thing that ever happened to him.

"...I surrounded myself with positive people and cut anything negative out of my life. If I ever felt like some negative thoughts were about to start up, I'd workout. After a hard workout you have no choice but to be happy. I get a natural high after a good lift or cardio session; it's the best feeling in the world."

WP: Usually I begin an interview with allowing the person I am interviewing to introduce themselves. But this time, instead, I'd like to take your story step by step in the interview. We will move slowly because I don't want to skip anything. What type of toll did that cause your body and to you mentally?

Being in the shape I was in caused me to have very low self esteem. I didn’t believe in myself and people could sense that within minutes of being around me. The main stress on my body was put on my knees. I couldn’t even run a mile before without some major swelling in one or both of them.

WP: Could you tell me what challenges you faced to lose the weight?

There were a lot of challenges during this process. The reason I started working out with Micah Lacerte at Hitch Fit was because they teach a lifestyle change, not just a quick temporary fix. I had to completely give up my old way of living, which I’d describe as the “party” lifestyle. I went from being out late drinking and eating to spending Friday nights at the gym. There were some “friends” who didn’t understand or care about my personal goals and definitely weren’t supportive.

I had a real issue with overeating that was the foundation of my previous body composition. I had to take control over the food and the amount of that food I was eating. Overeating, even healthy foods, will lead to major weight gain. So, acknowledging that, I had this problem was a huge key for me. Once I did that, I was able to take control of my diet and own it!

WP: What was the heaviest your weight got before you realized it was time for a change?

A few years prior, my heaviest weight was 225 pounds. I had gotten to 190 pounds by training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and eating a little healthier. I hovered at 190 for a solid 2 years; not making any more progress. I, then, met Micah at Hitch Fit, who taught me how to eat, workout and make positive choices in my life. Putting it all together allowed me to get in the best shape of my life. I have never seen my abs before, but I saw them for the first time in 12 weeks with Micah. That is a day I’ll never forget!

WP: Now that you have lost the weight, looking back, how did you feel about yourself when you were overweight?

I hear so many overweight people say, "I might be heavy, but I am happy!" I know, for myself, I was miserable and just didn't want to admit. I used to say that, too! When in reality I was lying, trying to cover up the fact that I was very sad. I had zero confidence in myself and it hurt my personal and professional life. There is a feeling you have when you are healthy, it’s very hard to describe but once you are there you understand. I now know that feeling was void prior to my transformation. I will never be unhappy like that again.

WP: Did you find yourself hiding your body when you were over weight?

Always! I’d wear big coats and shirts to hide my belly. Like most guys, I carried all my weight in my stomach area. I would always keep my coat on, even when I was inside. Looking back, I’m able to laugh a little that I would be so hot with my coat on, but refuse to take it off. There were certain types of shirts that I wouldn’t even try on because I knew the fit was supposed to be form fitting.

WP: To what extent did you take to lose the excess weight?

I did a 180 degree turn with my lifestyle. I went to the best personal training gym in the world; Hitch Fit. I trained with Micah Lacerte 3 days a week, did 3500 to 5000 calories of cardio on my own every week. The program came with a custom meal plan that allowed me to eat every 2 to 3 hours. I stayed 100 percent perfect to my diet during my entire transformation! To help keep my motivation I also participated in a transformation contest. I was voted top 10 out of 7000 people nationwide for the best overall transformation! I had a goal of getting in the best shape of my life and I was 100 percent committed to reaching that goal.

WP: How much do you weigh now?

I weigh 160 pounds right now. I’m still constantly trying to improve my overall composition.

WP: If you could tell someone who was overweight anything, what would you tell them? How would you motivate them enough to make them want to lose weight?

I would tell them I know how they feel right now and I know how they CAN feel. They just have to make the commitment.

WP: While losing weight, did you ever consider giving up? If so, why and explain how you were feeling.

Never! Well, actually15 minutes into my first day training, I questioned whether or not I could do it! It was so hard! Other than that, I never had a single bit of doubt creep in my mind. I would get weighed and measured every 2 weeks, so I could track the progress. Everyone at the gym is so positive you have no option other than to believe.

WP: How did people treat you or see you while you were overweight?

Well, honestly, I get treated drastically different. People would dismiss me very quickly before, now people take me seriously. I wasn’t dating at all prior! I am still single, but dating is a lot better now. I realize now how much life and opportunities I missed out on by not taking care of myself. I’m trying to take advantage of all the opportunities thrown my way now.

WP: What was the hardest part of being heavy, that you can remember?

The hardest part of being overweight was that I did not believe in myself, which ultimately led to others not believing in me. My self-confidence was at an all time low. I am so glad I’m not in that place anymore.

WP: Do you feel you ate out of comfort or out of emotions?

I mostly ate out of comfort and boredom. If I had nothing to do, I would just go to a sports bar order some greasy fried food and drink some beers. I look at food as fuel now, not as something to help pass time.

WP: Tell me, were there some little things you did to help control your feelings and thoughts about yourself while you were losing weight?

I surrounded myself with positive people and cut anything negative out of my life. If I ever felt like some negative thoughts were about to start up, I’d workout. After a hard workout you have no choice but to be happy. I get a natural high after a good lift or cardio session; it’s the best feeling in the world.

WP: How long did it take you to lose your weight?

I could see my abs after 12 weeks of training at hitch fit, but since I was in a transformation contest, I ended up doing 32 weeks worth of training at Hitch Fit. I knew, in order to win the contest, I needed to get completely ripped! So, I started Hitch Fit wanting to get in the best shape of my life. I thought it would be just to see my abs, and then it went to getting as ripped as I possibly could. Once I started to get lean I wanted more and more. Now I’m trying to take my body to the next level once again. Constant improvement!

WP: How did your life change once you started losing weight?

I became so happy! I was full of energy and found my new passion in life. I met a lot of new amazing people that inspire me every day to get better.

WP: What is your outlook on your life now since you’ve lost weight?

I am now a trainer at Hitch Fit! Going through the Hitch Fit transformation was easily the best decision of my life. More than anything I want to help and inspire people to do the same.

WP: What have you accomplished since you have lost weight?

I was voted top 10 out of 7000 contestants in a transformation contest. I competed in my first fitness competition at the WBFF World Championships. Most importantly, though, is that I’ve become a trainer at Hitch Fit. I want to help as many people as I can get their life back. I’m getting ready to compete again this summer!

WP: Compare your diet now to that of when you were heavy. How do they differ and what changes have you made in your diet?

When I was heavy I’d eat donuts or cereal for breakfast, fast food for lunch and fast food for dinner. Now I eat oatmeal, egg whites, chicken, brown rice and broccoli for many of my meals. Hitch Fit teaches you nutrition too, so once done with the transformation you are armed with all the knowledge to maintain the lifestyle forever! I’ll never go back to my old habits. I’m just too happy now!

WP: How do you feel about yourself now?

I feel great! I’m very happy that I was able to find my passion in life, fitness. I’m either training myself, my clients or reading to gain more knowledge about being healthy. I believe in myself now and feel that I can accomplish anything in the world!

WP: What keeps you motivated now?

Being at Hitch Fit everyday keeps me motivated. I’m surrounded by some of the top fitness models in the industry and clients that are super motivated to reach their goals. All of them inspire me every day to improve myself!

WP: What is the one food you still love and eat, although you know it's not good for you?

I do love to eat pizza and ice cream on the occasion. It tastes so good!

WP: Outside of working out, what is your next love?

I’m a huge sports fan. The Chiefs is my favorite NFL team. I’m completely obsessed!

WP: Any future projects?

I’m continuing to grow my personal training business. Also, look out for me on stage at a future WBFF fitness competition.

WP: What makes you?

I try to make every single decision a positive one. If you make improvement in your life every day from those choices, just imagine how much better off you are in a year.

WP: What makes you happy?

Constantly improving myself everyday makes me happy. Even if it’s something slight. I try to improve on something every day, no matter how small it may seem. Just imagine in a year how much you’ve improved if you do that every single day!

WP: Any shout outs?

I’d love to give a shout out to Micah Lacerte, Diana Chaloux and James Hanton at Hitch Fit. They are awesome people and I am proud to call them my friends and mentors.

WP: Thank you for inspiring us all! It’s been a pleasure interviewing you! Thank you and good luck in your future endeavors!
