Featured Athlete - 2009

Interviewed by Tammy Renee'

WP:Hello, Justin. It's a honor to be interviewing you. Let’s begin with you telling us a little about yourself.

JW: I spent the majority of my early life in New Jersey. My inspiration into the fitness lifestyle began at a young age through the influence of my childhood heroes Bruce Lee, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. My interest in martial arts flourished at a young age, and at this same time my hunger for knowledge on nutrition and dietary supplementation could not be satisfied. I was captivated by the complexity of achieving the most aesthetically pleasing physique possible. As I began high school with minimum weight training experience, I began training with one of top power lifters in the nation. At this time my intensity in the weight room began to progress and has continued to do so ever since. I was working harder then ever, but knew this was something that would take a lot of knowledge, time, money, pain and dedication.

WP: What was it that made you know that you without a doubt wanted to go into bodybuilding?

JW: This is what I am meant to do, and there is nothing else I would rather be doing. I want to look and feel great, health is wealth.

WP: How long have you been lifting?

JW: I have been lifting since I was a freshman in high school. Our football coach took it upon himself to renovate our facility and teach us the ways of the game. I could not have asked for a more solid foundation.

WP: More schools need people like that involved. What competitions have you appeared in and what place did you win?

JW: I will be competing in my debut competition May 25, 2009 at the Muscle Mayhem. Come and support your boy! It’s going to be a great show!

WP: I am sure you will have plenty of fans there! What are your best lifts?

JW:   I’m good at them all so, it’s hard to decide! Ha-ha. I would have to say pull ups and incline bench.

WP: Ha-ha! That's cute! Do you have any advice to people that wish to build more mass and more cut?

JW: The advice I give my clients is to set a goal of bulking or cutting for at least three months, and make sure you are seeing changes on a weekly basis. Too many people change their goal every month, usually accomplishing nothing and are just spinning their wheels. If you are not satisfied with the results you are seeing, contact me as a nutrition specialist I will create a customized plan just for you!

WP: That is great advice! What do you eat in a normal day?

JW: I find it beneficial to eat a healthy balanced meals every two hours. My average day would consist of oatmeal with eggs and juice for breakfast. Meal #2 is a protein shake two hours later, usually 50 grams of protein and a banana. For lunch I usually opt for Chicken, sweet potatoes, and green beans. Work out then have a post workout shake consisting of approx 60g protein and 60 grams carbs, usually waxy maize starch. Meal #5 is usually a chicken salad followed by a protein shake or piece of salmon before bed.

WP: That is a lot of clean food! Do you allow yourself a cheat day?

JW: I always have a cheat meal on Sunday, after I have completed all my responsibilities for the day.

WP: Mine is on Saturday so I can spend eating with friends and family. Ha-ha. What supplements do you take?

JW: Well, I am a walking supplement! I take Multivitamins, Protein, Calcium, Flax and Fish Oils, NO Xplode, Cellmass, Glutamine, Digestive Enzymes, just to name a few! I managed a GNC for a few years where I developed a true understanding of natural medicine. I strongly believe in holistic healing.

WP: That's a great supplement plan! Could you tell me a story of how you have gotten where you are today?

JW: As I journeyed down the road of life, I was faced with many obstacles and detours. As the oldest of eight I grew up fast, and was living even faster. Often times blinded by my youth making crazy decisions, it is fortunate that I am here today to even tell my story. I learned many lessons the hard way and have had to work for everything that I own. As I was struggling through the trenches of life, I sunk to an all time low while simultaneously dealing with a life-threatening illness. Through this process, I was constantly analyzing life; perplexed by the idea that so few people in this world are happy and how even fewer are living their dream. I have now spent over a decade studying and researching human behavior. With a concentration on the greatest thinkers, philosophers, generals, and leaders the world has ever known. This constant fascination left me with much clarity, enlightenment, and a commitment to the progression of mind, body and spirit. This constant flow of positive energy has brought many positive people and things into my life.

WP: Wow! What a story! Do you have anyone you can thank for helping you get where you are?

JW: When it comes to bodybuilding and fitness, if you fail you have no one to blame but yourself, however if you succeed then you must understand that you got there through the help of others. My family, friends, and clients are the reason I wake up in the morning. I couldn’t do it without them.

WP: You seem to very smart. I love the way you think. I know you have modeled so, can you tell me about your modeling?

JW: I do modeling because it is fun and I enjoy challenging myself both physically and mentally. I am an international model, and have experience in print, commercial, editorial, and runway work. I am currently feautured in magazines and calendars all over the world. I have only been modeling for a little over a year and could not be happier with the accomplishments that I have made. I stay in top shape year round and am always ready to shoot.

WP:  Where do you want to be in 5 years, then?

JW: In five years, I am going to be the top fitness model in the nation, with numerous sponsorships and books.

WP: If you believe, you can acheive! You look great! How do you keep the physique you have? What is the hardest thing for you to face when it comes to keeping your physique?

JW: I am consistent and my regiment is always changing and progressing. My biggest challenge is finding the perfect balance between working with clients, training, studying, dieting, and having a social life.

WP:  Tell me about your future projects. Have any in sight?

JW: I plan to bring my best physique yet to competition in May. I will be proceeding and following the completion with numerous photo shoots. I am really excited to see what is next for me on this journey.

WP:  What gets you up in the morning?

JW: To be honest… Money, Muscle, and women. A little caffeine never hurts though.

WP: I love to ask that question because of the responses I get! Oh my, that is a good answer! How do you approach a challenge?

JW: Head on. I first diagnose my weaknesses and usually tend to attack those first. I use this philosophy for many aspects of my life. You are only as strong as your weakest link.

WP: How do you create balance in your life?

JW: Meditation has allowed me to create a whole new reality for myself. Without it I feel true balance is impossible.

WP: I believe in meditation, too. I understand you worked with our Senior Photographer, John at bbpics.com. What was it like working with him?

JW: It was a great experience. John is a professional who always captures quality images.

WP: How did he go over and beyond for you?

JW: John took care of travel and food expenses. He was always helping to improve networking and sharing good information about the fitness world.

WP: Would you recommend him to your friends? If so, Why?

JW: I would def recommend John to anyone who is looking to get their portfolio started or get a new look to add to their portfolio.

WP: What one piece of advice you can share with me on how to gain the most muscle the fastest?

JW: Eat, eat, eat! And a lot of weight gainer shakes!

WP: Are you married, dating, or do you have kids?

JW: I have the most amazing girlfriend in the world. She is perfect for me.

WP: Awwwwww! I don't think I've heard a man say that before about his girlfriend! Who had the most impact on you growing up?

JW: My father was into bodybuilding, so that is where my initial inspiration came from, and of course Arnold. I have a great appreciation for the classic physiques of bodybuilding.

WP: What is your work out regimen?

JW: I am an advocate of DC training; however I am always integrating high volume training, core training, supersets, and explosive movements. There are no absolutes in bodybuilding, so if you want a program that offers all of the above, I offer these services through my website.

WP: Have you played in sports before?

JW: I have been an athlete all of my life. Growing up I participated in a lot of team sports including: football, basketball, baseball, and lacrosse. My true passion, however, is in the individual sports of bodybuilding and martial arts.

WP: Anything you would like to see change in the bodybuilding world?

JW: The pendulum of bodybuilding has swung all the way to the side of the mass monsters, and I feel confident that it is returning to the appreciation of the classic physique. The world will then turn a new light towards bodybuilding and it will become main stream.

WP: Any shout outs?

JW: Got to shout out my mom. I love you, mom. To my little brothers Eric, Jack, and Reed, as well as my boys Ryan and Bryan Heyer, Brandon Thompson, Brandon Reti, Adam Carlisle, Randall Moore, Bill Castagna, my girl Adena, and everyone at 75th street. One love!

WP:  What is your greatest achievement in bodybuilding?

JW:  Seeing the progressions I have made in the past year, while simultaneously getting published in national magazines.

WP:  What is the proudest moment of your life?

JW:  Every Sunday night when I realize I am a better person then I was the week before.

WP:  What are your interests outside of bodybuilding?

JW:  My interests include, but are not limited to: martial arts, reading, writing, art, movies, acting, and kickin it with friends.

WP:  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

JW:  I wouldn’t change anything, no regrets in this life.

WP:  Is there anything else you would like to add? Now is the time!

JW: To keep up with me stay in touch with www.justinwoltering.com
