Scotty Lindsey
WPM's Personal Trainer of the Month - August 2011

Interviewed by: Mike Hall
After graduating from college, Scotty Lindsey played Professional Football for about 6 years. When his career came to an end, he was looking for something that would intrigue and motivate him. He started and hosted speed and agility camps for kids along with a good friend of his. The camps were successful throughout the Houston area. About a year later, he found out his sister had high blood pressure, so he started working out with her 4 days out of the week for about an hour. That started his research into nutrition and everything about training. That’s when he found out what he wanted as his career.
He is now a Certified Personal Trainer, model, actor and fitness and health enthusiast. His entire life has always revolved around sports and working out. “Fitness is my drug. I get a natural high from working out,” says Scott.
"...My workouts are totally different than many may be use to. It's not your typical workout that most body builders or fitness models do. I am not your typical trainer that goes in the gym just to see how strong I am by lifting the gym. What defines you as an athlete is your true skill. Anyone can take supplements and get big; that's easy."
WP: Welcome Scotty. How long have you been a personal trainer?
I have been a personal trainer for about 7 years now.
WP: Being a personal trainer, you should be certified. What is your educational background?
I hold a B.S Degree in Kinesiology. My current certifications are CPT, PES, CES, NFPT.
WP: What do you feel sets you apart from all other personal trainers out there?
I don’t feel there are any other trainers like me. I am one of the best when it comes to training. I am personable, honest and specialize in all areas of health and fitness. A training session with me will definitely be unique, energetic and structured. My gifts and talents are a blessing that I do not take for granted.
WP: Where do you train your clients? Do you train them in a gym, at home, or where?
I have all types of clientele, so everything depends on if my services are needed locally or across country. If the training session is in town, more than likely it will be held at a gym. When I have to travel with one of my clients for a period of time, I mainly train them in a personal fitness studio or the hotel where we will be staying. Some of my clients are very high profiled and private, so it just depends on where we are going.
WP: You also model. Tell me about it.
Yes, I am the current advertisement and promotional model for TKO products. TKO sells everything from weights to apparel. I also received TKO’s 2010 “Model of the Year” award. I have been featured in numerous fitness and fashion magazines/websites.
WP: What are you goals?
My ultimate goal is to be one of the top fitness models and personal trainers in this era. When people hear the name Hard Body Scotty everyone knows that name. Eventually I would love be featured in a movie role, so I can show off some of my other talents as well.
WP: How does your trainer differ when you are modeling and when you are not?
My training is about the same year round. Morning time is usually my cardio and ab session. Mid- afternoon is my major muscle group and late evening is usually my touch up work out such as calves and forearm. I have to always be ready because I never know when the companies I represent will call and want a photo shoot. My workouts will always be intense and I have to always have my body in top shape no excuse no exception.
WP: What future projects do you have planned?
Well, I have some acting roles pending and many more fitness and fashion photo shoots lined up for the year. My next workout DVD “Adrenaline Rush 2” will be available soon along with my 2012 Scotty Lindsey Calendar and Apparel. There will be definitely more magazine and video features, fitness magazine covers, TV appearances, competitions and to lecture at more fitness seminars. Stay tuned. It’s only the beginning!
WP: Do you also compete? If so, what titles have you won. What competitions have you entered and what place did you take?
I have competed 3 times in the last year. I competed in the Lone Star, and Real twice. When I competed in Real for the first time, I placed second. I thought I should have won the first competition, so I competed again the following year and placed first. I competed in the Lone Star for the first time and placed forth only because I forgot my club wear. I didn’t do my homework before I entered the competition and just showed up thinking it was identical to the last show I entered.
WP: How does your routine and life changes when you go from pre-contest to off-season?
My workout never changes, but my diet changes completely. Pre-contest, I am usually consuming 300 grams of protein, 300 grams of carbs and about 15 grams of fat a day. My water intake is about a gallon for half a day.
When the date of competition starts to get closer, I start to drop more carbs out of my diet and increase my cardio to about 3 times a day. The week of competition I am consuming 200 grams of protein 100 grams of carbs and no fat. Water intake is a half a gallon a day. The day before competition, I am consuming nothing but protein and sipping water throughout the day.
On the off-season, I stay around 300 grams of protein, 300 grams of carbs, and 15-25 grams of fat a day.
WP: What do you like and dislike about competing?
What I like about competing is that it gives me the opportunity to meet others that live, breath and love the same things you do. It also gives me a great opportunity to network and meet some awesome people.
What I dislike about competing is sometimes the outcome is not what you projected. Sometimes I find myself asking, “What in the hell did the judges see that I didn’t see.” Ha-ha!
WP: What would you change about the judges in the competitions?
The only thing I would change is that you cannot be a judge if you have trained or train someone on the panel. I know it’s a small world and in the competition arena everyone knows someone, but sometimes people want to see certain people prosper.
WP: From your past contests, what have you learned you need to correct or work on for the physique you are aiming for?
I have been told by several competition judges that my overall proportions and physique is amazing. I have one of the best physiques around when it comes to overall balance and symmetry. Most models have to play catch-up because their upper body doesn’t match their lower body or vice-versa.
WP: What are your strengths in competitions?
I would say my strength is my confidence. When you are on that stage you have to walk and act like you already won because you have to leave a great impression on the judges. You have to make the judges and audience remember your name.
WP: What keeps fitness interesting to you?
I think just reading about different models doing great things and being apart of different organizations make me want to work even harder. Fitness is the way of life now. I just want to be considered a life changer. As a fitness model and personal trainer, not only do we help people who are trying to get in shape, but we also inspire people to take up this profession just by looking and living the part.
WP: Tell me something about yourself that no one else knows. It’s just between us, no one else will know. Ha-ha.
This better stay between us too. Ha-ha! Even I have a cheat snack. Every night before bed, I have a bowl of sherbet ice cream with some sprite. There is 365 days in a year, so I would say I am eating my favorite bedtime snack at least 90 percent of the time.
WP: Interesting fact! Ha-ha. How have you changed over the years?
I would say I have change for the best. With my career on the rise, everything around me makes more since now. I think my purpose in life was to help others and give the world what it has been missing in the world of fitness. I think the sky is the limited for me, because each day I am discovering new ways to help others. It may just be by giving some kind words to someone or a gentle hug, but it seems I am touching many people in many ways. I always receive appreciation emails from my followers and supporters.
WP: Any shout-outs?
I would like to say thanks to my family and friends, Wright Management, TKO, William Young and definitely Team Scotty Lindsey.
WP: Explain your workouts to me.
My workouts are totally different than many may be use to. It’s not your typical workout that most body builders or fitness models do. I am not your typical trainer that goes in the gym just to see how strong I am by lifting the gym. What defines you as an athlete is your true skill. Anyone can take supplements and get big; that’s easy. My workout consists of plyometric exercise that not only challenges you physically, but mentally, as well. Majority of my exercises will have some kind of explosive exercise that I will superset a stable exercise with. For example, if I do bench press, I will follow that with a plyometric dumbbell push-up. All you would do is stand a dumbbell off the ground. Get into push-up position and explode by lifting your entire body off the ground and stabilize onto the dumbbell with both hands. And you would reap that as quickly as you can. Sounds crazy, I know.
WP: What is your diet, other than you nightly snack? Ha-ha.
My diet varies a lot. I will give you a break down of one of my diets when I am trying to lean out. Breakfast: apple, 1-1/2 cup oatmeal, and 10 egg whites. Mid-morning snack: 1 baked potato, and 6 oz. of chicken breast. Lunch: apple, 1-1/4 cups of brown rice, 6 oz. chicken breast, and 1 cup steamed veggies. Afternoon snack: protein shake and 1 cup skim milk. Dinner: apple, 6 oz. tuna, 3 cups green salad, and 1 cup steamed veggies.
WP: What were you like in high school?
I was definitely a playboy. The ladies love them some Scotty Lindsey! Ha-ha! Even in high school, I was confident with swagger…nothing has changed.
WP: What are your hobbies outside of fitness?
Outside of fitness, I just enjoy hanging out with family and friends while working on my acting career. Acting has always been another passion, but I just never had time. I also like to travel frequently to experience different cultures.
WP: What supplements do you take and why?
The only supplement I take is Whey protein and amino acids. I take Whey protein because it provides my body with the right amount of amino acids that I need for building muscle and recovery. When my body is in a catabolic state after a workout, Whey protein is great fuel for the muscles.
WP: Anything you would like to mention before we close?
I have joined the fight against Breast Cancer with my 2011 Scotty Lindsey Calendar. I recently lost my grandmother to cancer, so I started doing research on various cancers to only find out that over 39,840 females die from breast cancer alone. Portion of the proceeds from calendar sells will be donated to help fight breast cancer in both women and men. To purchase calendar visit: www.scottylindsey.com.
WP: It’s been a pleasure interviewing you!
The pleasure has been mine.
